Screengrab In Exile Presents: Nightmare Week!

FreddyIcon

As we’ve already reminded you, it’s Halloween Eve, and goodness knows it’s been far too long since I’ve subjected myself to a marathon viewing of marginal cinema for your mild amusement. (Yes, it’s already been nearly four months since Shark Week.) As those of you who have been following our adventures since the original Screengrab days may recall, last year I endured 24 hours worth of Stephen King movies as a Halloween treat, and while there are doubtless enough King adaptations out there to fill another 24 (actually, 25 with Daylight Savings Time coming to an end – don’t forget to “fall back” after you finish trick or treating and toilet papering your boss’s front yard), I decided to go a different route. And so, beginning tonight, I will be tricking myself by watching every entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street series and treating you to the fruits of my labor. The best kills! The crappiest one-liners! The most dated moments and least explicable plot twists! Sounds like a SCREAM COME TRUE, doesn’t it, kiddies?

Nicely done. I’m assuming you’ll include the New Nightmare and Freddy vs. Jason, correct? You might wanna find yourself some of those astronaut diapers.

For Halloween this year I decided to watch 31 scary(ish) movies in the month of October. A week ago I was way behind the pace but my girlfriend spurred me on toward greatness and I proudly present my list so far:

    1. Dance of the Dead
    2. Gangs of the Dead
    3. Re-Animator
    4. Friday the 13th (1979)
    5. Friday the 13th (2009)
    6. Shadow of the Vampire
    7. The Thaw
    8. Drag Me to Hell
    9. Of Unknown Origin
    10. From Beyond
    11. The Cottage
    12. Night of the Living Dead (1990)
    13. Book of Blood
    14. Scream
    15. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
    16. Zombieland
    17. May
    18. Halloween 2 (1982)
    19. Screamers
    20. How to Be a Serial Killer
    21. Altered
    22. The Hunt
    23. Army of Darkness
    24. The Brood
    25. God Told Me To
    26. The Last Winter
    27. Clawed: the Legend of Sasquatch
    28. Prom Night (1980)
    29. Manhattan Murder Mystery

For the record, Of Unknown Origin, The Cottage, Zombieland, Drag Me to Hell, Screamers, Altered, The Brood, God Told Me To, Prom Night and Manhattan Murder Mystery are all highly recommended. If I had more integrity I’d limit myself to movies I’ve never seen before, but only three on the list are repeats and it’s been a while since I saw those so I’m counting them. Next year I’ll do it up proper.

Tonight, after a few hours of playing Left 4 Dead to get in the mood, we take it home with the remake of My Bloody Valentine and the piece de resistance: Trick R Treat!

    Happy Halloween, screengrabbers…muhuhahahaaaaa….
