The Five Best & Worst TV-to-Film Adaptations

When The A-Team storms the multiplex this Friday, it won’t just be the latest slice of ’80s nostalgia served up by the entertainment industry (we’re looking at you, Karate Kid), but also the latest extinct television series to make the leap to the big screen. This ongoing trend is a reversal of the trickle-down effect of yesteryear, when hit features like MASH,The Odd Couple and In the Heat of the Night begat long-running prime-time staples. As the major studios grow ever more reliant on the tried-and-true, you can expect to see more TV favorites serving as fodder for the Hollywood development machine (such as M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming The Last Airbender, based on the popular animated series). As always, some adaptations are more worthy than others.
