Best and Worst Interplanetary Action Flicks

Although there have been a number of successful movies about peaceful contact with beings from other planets ( E.T. springs to mind), let’s face it: It’s much more fun when they arrive packing heat and ready to rumble. That’s what made the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger shoot’em-up Predator a success, and why, more than two decades later, a fourth sequel (counting two crossovers with the Alien franchise), the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators, arrives in theaters Friday. The battle between humans and aliens has produced some classic action cinema — as well as some all-time duds.
