Austin Film Fest: Must-see movies and can’t-miss panels

The Austin Film Festival throws an additional wrench into the typically jammed film-festival scheduling process by offering up legitimately enticing panels alongside its selection of gala premières and once-in-a-festival-season screenings. Never ones to pass up a chance to see how movie-and-TV sausage is made (and inevitably neglected by the suits who own the machinery), we at The A.V. Club are jumping at the chance to take in talks by the likes of journalist-turned-showrunner David Simon and Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt—though we’re equally excited to take in the latest psychological puzzle from Darren Aronofsky. Here are the screenings, panels, and script-readings outside of which you’ll find our Austin Film Festival correspondents barely containing their anticipation.
